Ambervale Shiraz is a peculiar wine, but I like peculiar: it makes me think. The tannins are a real highlight; they have a pumice stone/pulverized character, and really draw the dark purple/gray fruit characters over the tongue and through into the long finish. It's midnight dark in the glass and resiny and dark in its soul, but it's detailed and focused too. Black tea, blackberry/raspberry seeds, fennel, dark cocoa and graphite. Good. Structure over fruit.
